March Pfaff & Viking Technique Class
The subject for March 2025 is Creating Free Standing Appliques. These appliques are created using Free Motion techniques. They can be applied to clothing, quilts, home dec projects, and any object that would not be able to be embroidered. The pictures show a pillow with two butterfly appliques, a bear to be used on a quilt, and a butterfly that can be used in many ways. It is a perfect way to make an applique when you only want to use it for one specific project.

Notes:
Designs for appliques will be available in class. If you have a picture or drawing of an applique that you would like to use, please bring a printout of it to class in the size you want.
There are many sources of designs online by searching for Line Drawings and the category. The best designs are those that do not have a lot of details and are black and white. You can always add details like shading. Coloring books can also be a good source.
If you prefer to use your applique on something other than a pillow such as a tote bag or jacket, please bring that item with you to class.
The instructions for the pillow will be available in class. The sample pillow is 9 ½” x 12 ½”. You can make one any size you would like. Adjust the amounts of fabric, piping cord, and length of zipper as needed to accommodate the size changes.
