Yarn Couching in Embroidery & Sewing
The workbook section for this month will be covering Yarn Couching in embroidery and sewing. This requires optional feet for both embroidering and sewing. The embroidery set of feet is labeled Yarn Couching Feet Set and contains two clear plastic feet that look very similar to the R embroidery foot that came with your machine. The difference in the two feet is the size of the opening in the foot through which the yarn and needle pass. The two sizes are for different thicknesses of yarn. There are special designs for Yarn Couching in embroidery which are built into your machine as well as designs in the mySewnet Library. The optional feet that are designed to be used with yarn in the sewing mode are the Three Hole Yarn Foot and the Yarn Embellishment Set. Both of these yarn feet for sewing have specially designed stitches to be used with them.
You are encouraged to stitch out a design in class. If you have done any Yarn Couching projects, please show what you have made during class. You can experience some yarn couching stitches in class either in embroidery or in sewing mode. For embroidery, have a 120x120 hoop prepared with tearaway stabilizer and fabric, the appropriate feet, and some yarn. For sewing, have a 6”x6” piece of fabric backed with tearaway stabilizer, the appropriate foot (either the Three Hole Yarn Foot or the Yarn Embellishment Foot), and some yarns. We will use designs/stitches that are built into your machines.
As time permits, we will be using the accompanying project write up to explore using these techniques to create a Roll Up sewing supplies bag.

Design Positioning
The workbook section for this month will be covering the Design Positioning function in the machine. We will learn how to use the feature and how the machine guides you through the steps in placing your design exactly where you want it.
It will help you learn the process if you will be prepared to practice positioning and stitching out a small design. You will need the following:
120 x 120 hoop
a 10” x 12” piece of plain fabric
a 10” x 12” piece of tearaway stabilizer
Embroidery Thread – suggest red
Embroidery Bobbin Thread
Hoop the fabric and stabilizer in the hoop.
We will review the accompanying project write up for placing designs on a jean jacket. This project shows two methods for using the Design Positioning feature – using a template and using the app on a cell phone. Both of these methods will be demonstrated and discussed in class.
The workbook and project write ups will be emailed to prior to class.
