Door Hangers

Door Hangers

Join us each month for a quickie from Anita Goodesign.

This apron is created by embroidering the Apron Face design on a Tea Towel and adding fabric for pockets and ties.

Supplies:

  • Sewing and embroidery machine
  • 260 x 200 hoop for largest size
  • Adjustable Binder foot if you have one (a Viking foot)
  • Tea Towel – laundered and ironed – suggest using a light colored towel since the color of the towel shows through the embroidery as the face
  • 1/2 yard fabric for pocket
  • 1/3 yard fabric for ties
  • Fusible tear away stabilizer
  • Tear away stabilizer
  • Embroidery bobbin thread
  • Embroidery threads in your color choices.
  • Pieces of fabrics for applique
  • Steam-a-Seam if desired for backing applique fabrics
  • Small sharp scissors for trimming appliques
  • Construction thread to coordinate with pocket and tie fabrics

Prior to Class:

  • Launder and iron the tea towel

Prepare bias strips for ties by cutting 2 ½” bias strips from the tie fabric. In order to maximize the length of the strips, you can cut them on a 60 degree angle rather than a 45 degree angle. You will need two strips about 72” long each. Join the ends at a 45 degree angle as you do for binding, trim the seam allowance to a scant ¼”, and press the seam open. After joining the strips to get the needed length, fold the strips in half along the length and iron. Then open the strips out and fold the raw edges in to meet the crease in the middle and refold on the center crease and iron to make double fold bias strips
