Applique Creator & Donut Zipper Pouch

This is a hands on workshop where we will be using and experimenting with the Applique Creator feature of the Viking and Pfaff machines.  Once you have created an applique, it can be stitched out and used as the top piece on a cute little donut sized zipper pouch.


Supplies  –

  • Sewing machine with embroidery module
  • Hoops - 120 x 120
  • Embroidery foot
  • Needles: 90 Embroidery
  • Zipper foot
  • ¼” piecing foot
  • Tear-Away stabilizer
  • Water or air erasable marking pen
  • Fabrics of your choice:
  • 1/4 yard fabric for exterior of pouch
  • 1/4 yard fabric for lining
  • 1/4 yard fusible fleece (available at Sew-Ciety)
  • 1/4 yard Pellon Décor-Bond (available at Sew-Ciety)
  • 5” square(s) of fabric for applique (Steam-A-Seam fused if desired)
  • 10” piece of 1” twill tape or 2” wide x 10” long piece of exterior or lining fabric
  • 14” zipper (available at Sew-Ciety)
  • 1 package 1/2” double fold bias tape or 2” wide bias strips of lining fabric to equal 36”
  • Sewing threads to match exterior fabric
  • Rotary cutter and ruler
  • Small sharp Scissors to trim fabrics & threads
  • Embroidery threads -  threads for applique design
  • Bobbins wound with embroidery bobbin thread
  • Basic sewing tools and supplies

Pfaff Creative Sensation or Sensation Pro     NO embroidery unit needed

NOTE: All measurements, etc., are based on a 3 ring notebook with rings no larger than 2”

 

Fabrics –

NOTE: Suggest that fabrics used read as a solid; batiks are recommended

½ yard main fabric

Fat quarter or ¼ yard contrast/coordinating fabric

6” square of third coordinating fabric

 

Stabilizer, Interfacing, etc. –

Fusible Fleece – approx 27” x 14”

Non-fusible sheer mesh stabilizer 12” x 30”

Tear away stabilizer 12” x 30”

Fusible Interfacing such a Deco Bond 12” x 24”

 

Threads, Yarns, etc. –

Embroidery Threads that coordinate/contrast with the fabrics

Embroidery bobbin thread

Sewing thread such as Aurifil for construction

Yarns, ribbons, other fibers for embellishing

 

Etc –

3 ring binder with rings 1”, 1 ½”, or 2”

Rotary cutter

Fabric scissors

Thread scissors

Ruler for use with rotary cutter

Frixion pen(s) that will show up on fabrics

Fray Block

Straight pins

Machinger gloves (optional) useful when doing embellishments

Sample book of Stacking & Ribbon stitches if you have one
