The completed project for this class is a Dimensional Embroidered Bowl.

Embroidery with Puffy Foam, quilting, and stitched piping are used to

embellish the bowl. Both embroidery and sewing techniques are used.

The completed bowl is approximately 8” high.

 

Supplies needed:

  • Sewing Machine with embroidery & IDT or Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot or walking foot
  • Embroidery hoop at least 180mm x 130mm
  • Piping Foot or Clear Piping Foot
  • Size 90 Embroidery needles
  • Inspira In-R-Form (or Soft N Stable)– an 18” x 36” piece will be enough
    • Cut 3 pieces 11” x 11”
    • 4 additional pieces will be cut during the construction process to create the quilted panels
  • No-Show-Mesh cut away stabilizer – enough for three hoopings
  • Puffy Foam – 4-6 pieces 6” x 9” – colors that are close to the colors of the embroidery threads
  • Piping Trimming Tool – Groovin’ Piping Trimming Tool or Simpli-EZ Piping Wizard
  • Hex N’ More Ruler
  • Embroidery thread to match/coordinate with fabrics – see attached design explosion chart
  • Sewing thread for assembling project
  • Fabric A – 1/2 Yard solid fabric – for embroidered panels (there are 3)
    • Cut 3 pieces 12” x 15” – Lightweight fabrics can be backed with Jenny Haskins Sheer Magic Plus if desired
  • Fabric B – 1 Yard coordinating print fabric – for lining, quilted panels, and binding
    • Cut 1 piece 28 ¼” x 8 ¼” for lining and 1 strip 2 ½” long x width of fabric for binding
    • 5 additional pieces will be cut during the construction process to match the embroidered panels
  • Fabric C – a fat quarter – for piping (can be the same as Fabric A)
    • MUST BE CUT ON BIAS – 69” x 1 ¼” - can be in three 23” (or longer) pieces
  • Yarn for creating piping – Sugar and Cream yarn works well – 2 yards
  • Erasable marking pen – Frixion pen recommended
